Method
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) with a rack in the center position. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
- In a small bowl, combine the ketchup, brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon of the Worcestershire sauce for the glaze.
- Place the grated onion in a clean kitchen towel and wring out any excess liquid. Transfer the squeezed onion to a large bowl.
- Add the ground beef, Italian sausage, breadcrumbs, beaten eggs, milk, kosher salt, Italian seasoning, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and the remaining 1 tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce to the bowl with the onion. Mix everything well.
- Transfer the meat mixture to the center of the prepared baking sheet. With wet hands, form the mixture into an 8 x 4-inch loaf.
- Rub the meatloaf with the prepared brown sugar mixture until it is evenly coated.
- Bake for about 50 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) on an instant-read thermometer. Let the meatloaf rest for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
For an even richer flavor, you can add a tablespoon of butter to the pan when sautéing the onions before adding them to the meat mixture. This recipe is also delicious with a side of mashed potatoes or roasted vegetables.
